Controversy is the second name of Matt Stone and Trey Parker, the creators of the show South Park. I am trying to remember a time when no hue and cry was raised after each episode of South Park Patrick and trust me, I could not. Hope you remember the last season where in one episode, Steven Spielberg and George Lucas were shown raping Indiana Jones. The outrage that followed took a while to die down. I am sure you would agree that there are better ways of showing contempt for a movie if you don’t like it, in this case Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull.
Let’s admit it, despite our fake outrage, we all love the show. How else do you account for the huge popularity of the show? The latest 13th season of the show is no different from its predecessors. The episode I See Dead Celebrities featured celebrities like Patrick Swayze and Michael Jackson, Farrah Fawcett, David Carradine beside hosts of others who had died this year.
And poor Patrick has been dead just one month.
Now one part of me agrees with all those critics who say that the joke has been taken too far by the show creators. Let’s not talk about the rest of me, for it enjoyed the episode.
In a spoof of the thriller The Sixth Sense, Kyle’s kid brother, Ike is possessed by Michael Jackson’s ghost and he starts claiming that he is a little girl. Cartman, Kenny, Stan and Kyle come to his rescue and enter his name in a beauty pageant for kids.
In a rather twisted narrative, after freeing Ike, Jackson’s ghost boards a bus in purgatory along with other celebrities to go to heaven but it heads directly to hell.
If this joke is not sick enough, episode showed the ghost of David Carradine, the Kill Bill star hanging in a closet wearing high heels and stockings.
Matt Stone and Trey Parker created a web series The Princess which could not survive more than a couple of episodes. You don’t have to be a rocket scientist to understand the reason. It’s really amazing how they manage to make animation so gross and shocking.
